Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Review
When I saw the ratings, I had to see what all the fuss was about. It wasn't a flashy show by any means but had enough originality to keep me interested somewhat. The art was above average and was good, it fit the unique style this anime has. The story involving slavery and revenge espionage of a Mongolian tribe, with it's historical elements to have a story based in history with real events that happened. It's probably one of a kind with it's setting and I liked learning about history around Genghis Khan's family and tribes that existed. Although, the story feels like introduction to much bigger story that has yet to occur and barely achieved the MCs goal or even made alot of progress. Slavery hundreds of year was as common as any other trade, so having issues with that means you don't know history and maybe you could say either way if the mc issues are justified or not as I think it is fine and the was the only way to infiltrate the enemy that she had.
The story where shifts from trying to open your mind and gain knowledge from where she was the happiest quickly was forgotten about until the end, meanwhile the story focus shifted towards the enemies and I couldn't find any compassion for them since they're suppose to be bad. As I thought this was going to be like Orb but was instead about the politics of this tribe and Sitara was not really doing much and not really developing her character, as she seemed to change completely stealing the name of the most important person she knew. We only saw progress at the end which felt like the whole anime was just a prologue to something to happen. Maybe it's just me but historical setting and politics are not my favourite things and has to do more than just that to interest me. While I liked some of it and wished more from, it had some gripes as I have with villainess anime just this one had a twist to it.
Maybe this was just not for me, but it was boring after a while as I have no interest in the religious stuff or the scientific stuff it added with ancient medicine. Nothing to blow me away, and the character design can't help but compare them to something like Kid's Next Door but more american football shaped heads. I might of liked it if the designs were better. I can appreciate the anime but I didn't like it and would need more episodes as felt like the anime cut off too short if it was a long anime or two cours it could of redeemed itself and warranted the 8 everyone gave it. So we need season 2 to give a definite good or bad rating for me. If you loved this, I envy you as I tried but not for me.
6.8/10
