Guilty Pleasure Anime/Manga - ⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑⠑ A guilty pleasure anime for me would have to be Fairy Tail, this anime was one of the first anime I watched and I really enjoyed it but years went on and it got more popular which many thought that the anime sucked so my opinion was changed as everyone misunderstood the anime. It may have all these flaws that harsh critics like to say but the anime shouldn’t be taken so deeply as it’s basically just cartoons and what matters is if it’s enjoyable which it very much is. If it was as bad as people said then it still wouldn’t be as popular but it is getting new anime till this day and has a huge fanbase. Fairy Tail is about guilds and this one guild is called Fairy Tail and they have quests and events that they can do, in a way like One Piece because it’s inspired by it and yet it’s completely different. It manages to be amazing as an anime even though it gets so much hate because it pulls off everything you need for...

Favourite Rivalry in Anime/Manga - ⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑⠑⠑⠊⠑ My favourite rivalry in anime would have to be Zoro and Sanji from the anime One Piece, the dynamic between the two of both being super alike to each other because everyone of the strawhats are friends so the type of rivalry they have isn’t with any bad blood. Zanji are always neck and neck with each other because of how similar to one another they are, Luffy’s crew always dreams to be the best so the two of them fight to be the better man by comparing bounties. This creates silly shenanigans they both do which at times can be just to out petty the other one which creates for hilarious moments with the two fighting, where it would start with one of them dissing the other with some funny joke and they’d start to duke it out. The comedy in One Piece never gets old for me just like when Brook says his classic line “But I'm already dead” and id crack up even though I heard it 100 times; just like when Soro fight they could have th...

Since it’s the time to talk about more anime for the catalog event, I decided to pick an anime that is in my top 3 which is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I watched this anime very early on in my experience and I have yet to see an anime that is as good as this that hit such a cord in me, that I hold it to very deeply in my core. Now, Gurren Lagann is a mecha anime so when people see that they are immediately put off by it as a lot of the genre has some mediocre clones of Gundam but this anime is not like those. In fact, it topples a lot of the Gundam series, sorry die-hard fans of Gundam. Now to be more coherent, I will shorten this anime name to TTGL, fyi so you know. TTGL is about a kid called Simon who finds a robot and just so happens to turn into a mech, Simon and friends go on an epic adventure through the wasteland filled with pure badass-ness fights with just a drill. To pierce the heavens, is the motto of this anime and it shows very well as they came from nothing and aim n...

Spoilers Ahead The movie when I first saw it stood out for me so incredibly, right from the start the art style is so different from any other movie I’ve seen by having dazzling types of high contrast, flat colors with little shading which looks like something that Takashi Murakami would make. Even though it has this unique art style, it still feels like a real movie and the bright colors really make everything pop, with shots of scenery that I really loved when I first watched this anime. The anime is about a girl named Smile which she calls herself that and is an idol on a livestream app. She meets a boy named Cherry, where all the characters do not have actual names except one minor character. They both share insecurities, Cherry has social anxiety and uses headphones to comfort him and Smile is conscious about her teeth and uses a mask to hide while also being a micro idol online. When Cherry gets too overwhelmed, he turns red hence why he is called Cherry; it shows the problems th...

A recent anime called Insomniacs After School grabbed my attention as someone who has had insomnia since the age of 10, this anime shows a part of insomniacs that day enjoyers don’t know about and has the effects or feelings that people with this condition exhibit. I loved this anime so much when I was watching it, and it is the perfect anime to watch when you can’t sleep as well. What I liked about this anime is that it has a very calm feeling like you are laying down looking at the night sky and inhabiting those feelings so well. The feeling of this anime is so unique from its incredible styled soundtrack being a slow bpm with a soothing guitar or soothing vocals and the rest of the music being very cutesy with an amazing opening as well, just makes watching this anime even more enjoyable for me. The vibe on this anime is very sleepy or dreamy, kind of calm when it’s night and they are doing their activity or chatting, it’s like staying up in sleepover. You get to experience thi...

Iyashikei is probably my favourite subgenre of anime. Iyashikei is a subgenre of a slice of life meant to relax the audience and unwind to the point it has a healing effect on the audience that has heartwarming moments and an escape from reality. One of my favourites of this genre that I feel like no one ever talks about or a lot of fans of the show is Amanchu!. The anime is sort of like Aria, with being heavily inspired by the anime, but also it’s different because it doesn’t have fantasy and is about diving. There’s something about combining sports or activities like fishing or diving or shogi or school band and slice of life really goes well together; as well as bringing you back to a more simpler time in your life where everything was easier, and I believe that is the purpose for slice of life. I love this anime to death, even though it gets an average score, but to me I actually don’t know why it’s like that because it’s amazing. The story is about a green-haired girl called ...

Haibane Renmei is about a girl called Rakka who is reborn as an angel from a cocoon and doesn’t remember who she is or anything about her which is common with the other people she lives with. Rakka develops wings, as it’s common with the people like her who were also from cocoon’s. Rakka goes throughout the story, with dissociation from herself and the world; I can’t stump what her purpose is in the world or why she’s there. Her wings get darker and full of oil when her mental state is worsening and at the start she has to develop her wings, which was very brutal to experience being in her shoes. I’d have to compare her character to Lain where she is listless all the time, and is always curious about outside her little village which she is not allowed out of without someone else. This anime shows that everyone faces the same issues with existence but doesn’t show and has to find their peace in the world or be ignorant of it. It also has themes of the afterlife as they are reborn i...

The story follows Rei Kiriyama, a shogi elite that has been a savant at an early age and grew up being in the light of success, but as he grows older, he realises the amount of pressure and finds it hard to keep a float in the world. The opening really speaks to it, which actually shows the waves of water that are crashing into him symbolising all his trauma and expectations, etc that he's going through and I think the full animation opening video really metaphorically shows the imbalance of Rei’s life perfectly. Rei however finds three sisters that bring him into their home and show him admiration and love; it’s super wholesome to watch their daily lives and make Rei come out of his comfort zone. For me, I very much relate to Rei as when I first started watching, I experienced very much what he was going through and it’s very cathartic to watch this anime as it deals with so much heavy and deep stuff, but also it’s a very meaningful life lesson for anyone going through stuff. I’d...

Revy is an amazing character from the anime Black Lagoon because others close to her have fun under her  wing in the Lagoon Company. She lives on the edge everyday risking her life for the thrill and sadistic urge to kill anyone in her way, even innocent people with zero remorse, a true psychopath. I like her personality as she is very savage, mean and cool which makes her super badass; one of the most coolest characters in anime and it's a female, this is real equality right here. Nothing can stop her as she is always determined to fight even when she shouldn't because she doesn't give two flips about keeps anything, she does whatever she wants and it's 100% being herself while not being afraid to cause trouble. She may be a terrible person in theory but at least she is true to herself and keeping it really honest, some say she's evil in one sense but in this context she is actually the most open book which is far from evil when she's not fighting. Revy all her...

HEAVY SPOILER WARNING Brand new animal is an original anime about beastmen who live in a human society and are hunted by humans who are discriminatory towards them. The anime is following the trend of furry anime like Beasters but this one stood out to me as it was being made by Trigger which is a relatively new studio and focuses on quality over quantity as they have only made 31 anime but still an outstanding presence in modern anime which shows. The show does a great job at worldbuilding with every episode introduces another area to the city and actually feels like a real place that you could live in The show set off a realist yet advanced world of humans hating beast but also some beasts are against themselves also which they have to get to the bottom of the criminal organisation that is plotting against the haven for beastmen kind. Even though it took a month for them to air all the episodes the quality in animation never seems to dip in quality as it is always vivid and vibr...

Welcome, this anime is in my top ten anime of all time and here's why Soundtrack What makes this anime so sad is the soundtrack for Clannad. My favourite song on this is Dango Dango Daikazoku, if you haven’t seen this show then (I don’t why you are reading this) you don’t know how tragic this song is as from someone who hasn’t seen it. Dango family sounds like a very soothing and sweet song but after you finish this anime; listen to it again and then your perception of it will change. Like the show, the song starts very simple but when you get to around halfway it always brings tears to me and makes me cry as it's the same song used in Nagisa’s death. At the same time it is very beautiful and a masterpiece of a song. After the arson attack on Kyoto animation, I have to pay respects to Yoshiji Kigami, Futoshi Nishiya and others it couldn’t be possible without these people to make this beautiful piece of art, this is my tribute back to them. The Dango song gets changed so many t...
